Naperville Park District Severe Weather Precautions

Excerpts from Naperville Park District Severe Weather Warning Systems

The Naperville Park District has lightning warning systems at Nike Sports Complex, Frontier Sports Complex, DuPage River Sports Complex, Commissioners Park, Knoch Park, Centennial Beach, and Springbrook and Naperbrook Golf Courses. A lightning warning system tracks storm activity. When lightning is detected an alarm will sound indicating that lightning is in the area, allowing persons to take cover. A strobe light will continue to flash until the system sounds an all-clear signal by emitting a series of short blasts.

This system is not fail-proof. Common sense must still be used when threatening weather is reported or observed. TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY, when lightning threatens even if a signal has NOT sounded.

Please keep in mind that there are two audible warnings:

 Lightning Warning: one prolonged alarm blast and strobe light activated.

 All Clear: Three short alarm blasts.
